Back in 2021, James Buckley declared to NME that “Oasis were the greatest band in the world” and speculated that a reunion was inevitable: “If The Stone Roses reunited for a few gigs, then any band could.” Now, the Inbetweeners star, along with co-star Joe Thomas, is set to bring that prediction to life—albeit in a comedic twist—as they portray Liam and Noel Gallagher in an Oasis parody for Comic Relief.
Fans had been speculating for days after hints emerged about a potential Oasis-related sketch, and now it’s confirmed: Buckley and Thomas will reunite on-screen to play the feuding brothers in what promises to be a hilarious take on a long-awaited comeback. The duo, best known for their roles as Jay and Simon in The Inbetweeners, had teased the project by sharing a photo together—presumably from the set—captioned by Buckley: “Don’t call it a comeback.”
Speaking about the opportunity, Buckley, a devoted Oasis fan, said he was “honoured to be asked” to take part in the sketch, adding: “Of course, being a huge Oasis fan, getting to be Liam for the day was a dream come true.” Thomas, meanwhile, shared that he grew up watching Comic Relief, always looking forward to the “big sketch” of the night, making this experience both exciting and nerve-wracking.
The sketch will air as part of Red Nose Day on Friday, March 21, starting at 7 PM on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. As part of the fundraising efforts, Comic Relief is also giving away two VIP tickets in the Royal Box at Wembley Stadium for Oasis’ reunion tour on August 2. The lucky winners will also receive a guitar signed by both Liam and Noel, as well as official tour merchandise.
Buckley’s love for Oasis runs deep. In an NME interview, he recalled attending his first-ever gig at Finsbury Park in 2002—an unforgettable experience that set the bar for all future concerts. “The first gig, and also the best gig I’ve ever been to,” he reminisced. “The support was incredible: The Charlatans, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Cornershop, The Coral… it felt like there were 30 bands playing that day. That night, Oasis were the greatest band in the world.”
While the real reunion remains a mystery, this Comic Relief parody might be the closest fans get—at least for now.
